Miami County ESC: Opportunity School
We believe that all students can learn. By placing primary emphasis on academics, we strive to meet mental needs while reinforcing appropriate behaviors and skills
The MCESC classrooms at the Opportunity School, in Troy, provide the necessary environment and support for students with emotional disturbances (ED). Opportunity School students, whose ages range from 8-18, participate in a typical classroom setting, but are provided with additional structure and environmental support not available while attending their local school.
Students placed at The Opportunity School require additional counseling services and an adjusted curriculum. The goal of this unit is to transition these students back into their regular school classroom.
The Opportunity School staff requires training in dealing with aggressive and negative behaviors. The staff consists of an Administrator, Special Education Supervisor, Teachers, Social Workers, Intervention Technicians, and Educational Aides. They work with ED students and parents on social, communication, and behavioral skills.
